10 Secrets When Creating or Updating Your Will

There is an extensive list if items and legal areas which need to be considered in detail when creating and then managing your Will over time.

The following 10 items provide an insight into what needs to be decided when your Will is being created:

  • Who will be your Executors?
  • Who would be a Guardian for your children?
  • Any particular items to gift and sums of money.
  • Who will get the residue (everything else)?
  • Is there a house to gift, should someone live there until they marry or die?
  • Do you want a substitute for any beneficiary?
  • Do you want to set out any burial or cremation?
  • If the will is unusual in any way draft a letter of wishes to clarify the reasons for the gifts. The letter should not be unkind or offensive to those excluded but instead detail the reasons for those who have been included.
  • Keep the will safe and do not attach anything to it.
  • A will is invalidated if you marry and the will does not provide for it. On divorce, the spouse is deleted.
