A civil claim is an action which is issued in a court or tribunal in the UK by one party against another. A party being an individual, a business, Government department or some other organisations.

Civil disputes include recovery of loss for a breach of contract, employment complaints, unpaid debt, personal injury, housing or land disputes.
Generally action is taken through the County Court, where the lower value claims are allocated to the small claims court. (Currently under £10,000 – £1,000 for personal injury claims).
It is generally prudent to attempt to settle a complaint out of court.
